Northwestern Mutual Donates $30,000 During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Starlight Fun Centers and Tablets Bring Entertainment to Children Battling Cancer

In honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, Northwestern Mutual donated nearly $30,000 to hospitals across Minneapolis in the form of four Starlight Children’s Foundation Fun Centersand three Starlight Tablets.  This donation is part of the ongoing efforts of the Northwestern Mutual Childhood Cancer Program, a multi-year commitment to accelerate a cure for childhood cancer and support families dealing with the disease.

Starlight Fun Centers are mobile entertainment units that easily roll up to a hospital bed so children can play video games and watch movies. Starlight Tablets are enhanced iPads that link to Starbright World, Starlight’s social network where children can connect on chat rooms, post on bulletin boards, watch movies, play games and more. Whether nervously awaiting surgery, enduring treatment or sitting in their hospital room, Fun Centers and Tablets help children cope by providing endless hours of fun and entertainment.

On September 20th, Northwestern Mutual donated the Fun Centers and Tablets to Minneapolis Children’s Hospital, St. Paul Children’s Hospital, Centracare Hospital in St. Cloud and Essentia Hospital in Duluth.

Let's Fight Childhood Cancer

We're proud to fight childhood cancer as a participant in the Northwestern Mutual Childhood Cancer Program. Together, we are working to accelerate the search for a cure and to provide support to kids and families facing the daily struggles of this disease.

Partnering with Starlight Children's Foundation, Northwestern Mutual - The Columns Resource Group is raising money to purchase up to three Fun Center mobile entertainment units for Essentia Health - St. Mary's Children's Hospital in Duluth, Minn. Whether hospitalized children are awaiting surgery or sitting restlessly during treatment, Fun Centers help them to cope by providing endless hours of fun and distraction.

Parents and medical professionals report that children often request less pain medication when using a Starlight Fun Center.

Please help make a difference in the lives of kids fighting childhood cancer and join our effort by making a contribution to help purchase the Fun Centers. Contributions can be made online through Starlight's secure, online fundraising site on Fundly. Thank you for your support!
